Sascha Ruppert-Karakas is a PhD candidate at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute, Department of Political Theory (Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich). Driven by the historical re-examination of the two authoritarian temptations in Germany, he devotes his research interests to the discourses and practices of authoritarian statehood, with a special interest in Syria. His dissertation project focuses on the politics of antagonisms in Assad's Syria from the perspective of Carl Schmitt's political theory. He tweets @SashRu88.
